Although the project budget seems high, many aspects
of the project could come from socially responsible
contributions or donations of time, services, space
or equipment.
In this time of economic and political turmoil access
to funding has become extremely limited through the
normal channels. Funding for many of the actions proposed
by sex industry workers have been stalled or not supported
at all as a result of shifting priorities at all levels
of government. This web site is an attempt to take
matters into our own hands and to allow members of
the sex industry community and the greater community
the opportunity to support these actions moving forward.
When we consider the amount of money spent during
the “Trial in the case of the Missing Women”,
some where in the neighborhood of $500,000,000.00,
the budget here seems quite reasonable. We must find
new ways to protect sex industry workers and the communities
where sex work takes place. Our plans could be the
beginning of a sustainable solution to the issues
facing all communities and could have an impact across
Canada.
It should be noted that we are a “for profit” endeavor
and so are unable to provide tax receipts. However,
a contribution to the WCCSIP will allow a community
designed response to the issues and barriers facing
the sex industry community to move forward in spite
of lack of government support and will show sex industry
workers that people DO care about what happens to
them.
The WCCSIP is seeking support on a number of levels:
- Experts and Professionals from the greater
community to lend sex industry workers their knowledge,
time, support and mentorship as we try to lift ourselves
out of chronic dependence on support services,
- Physical
space for these actions to move forward,
- Equipment,
materials and skilled trades to realize the plans
outlined in Building Choices for the Future,
- Financial
support for the business planning and capacity building
aspects of this project.
All funds received or spending by WCCSIP will be
made public. Complete accountability and transparency
in this regard is our goal. Budget goals and revenue/income
reports will be posted on line and will be kept up
to date.
If you or your organization would like to support
the projects and actions of the WCCSIP you can do
so by:
- Contributing directly on line – message
title-WCCSIP
- Through the “ Friends of WCCSIP” program
- Contacting the WCCSIP development coordinator:
